Lesson 1: Developer Experience (Backstage)
🧠 The Concept (Explain Like I'm 5)
Developers want to write code, not fight with AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes configs. Backstage (Internal Developer Portal) is an internal app store for developers. A developer clicks "New Node.js App", and Backstage automatically creates the Git repo, CI/CD pipeline, SonarQube project, and Kubernetes deployment YAML.
🏢 The Enterprise Context
- Golden Paths: Instead of dictating rules, platform teams provide "Golden Paths". If a developer uses the Backstage template, they get logging, metrics, and security out-of-the-box.
- Software Catalog: A single pane of glass showing who owns which microservice, its API documentation (TechDocs), and its current pagerduty status.
